Our Placements So Far
Since 2018 the primary method of Knowledge Exchange for CHASE has been our placement scheme. To date we have offered 223 placements with 156 different organisations, in 21 different countries. Our placement hosts span a range of industries, organisations, disciplines, and initiatives including world renowned heritage sites such as Canterbury Cathedral and local heritage initiatives like Up on the Downs; independent galleries like Brighton’s ONCA and national museums like the V&A; hyper-specialised non-profits like the Open Data Institute and nationwide charities like Save the Children.
Our placements are generally organised in one of two ways: by advertising and inviting applications via the CHASE sites or via researchers themselves, who contact potential hosts and organise their own placements. Our researchers can also use the placement scheme to set up their own venture.

Placement Category Overview
Placement hosts in the Creative Arts category are the most popular among researchers, closely followed by Publishing and Material History. However CHASE is happy to facilitate a variety of appropriate placements for CHASE researchers, so if you have an idea for a placement not covered by the categories on this page feel free to get in touch!
Going forward we would be particularly interested to hear from researchers looking to start their own organisation or business. This would fall into the Entrepreneurial category.
The Creative Arts
Creative Arts organisations and institutions are the most popular placement hosts among researchers, but the Creative Arts category is also the most heterogenous with 9 subsections. The placements in this category generally take place within museums and galleries, which totals 35 out of the 48 placements.
Museums and Galleries
As of 2018 we’ve worked with a total of 27 different museums and galleries in 10 different countries. The museums and galleries range from specialist heritage museums and artist run galleries to large national institutes.

The ICA, London
‘‘The Institute of Contemporary Arts in London has been the model for most ICAs that exist in the world today. Since its founding in 1946, the ICA contextualises contemporary culture within the socio-political conditions of the times.’
The Corinium Museum, Gloucester
‘The Corinium Museum’s principal collection consists of the highly significant finds from the Roman town of Corinium, today known as Cirencester. However, the museum today is much more than that, taking you on a journey through time and charting the development of the Cotswolds from its prehistoric landscape to the modern day.’
Wien Museum, Austria
‘Wien Museum is a general-purpose metropolitan museum with a wide range of collections and exhibitions – from the history of the city to art, fashion and modern culture, from the earliest settlements to the present day. Because of its general approach and interdisciplinary potential, it occupies a unique position among Vienna’s museums.’
Placements by Researcher
To give you an idea of what kinds of placements CHASE researchers in different disciplines tend towards, we’ve compiled information on placements taken up by CHASE historians and researchers in Literature. To see exact numbers hover your cursor over the charts.
Placements Held by Historians
Placements Held by Researchers in Literature
Literature researchers have countless interests, skills, and talents applicable across a number of different industries and organisations. Not all placements taken up by researchers explicitly map onto their subject interests and this can be incredibly beneficial for both researcher and placement host!
